About

Leadership

Laboratory for Research on Molecular Mechanisms of Longevity was established in 2022. Laboratory is lead by M.Y. Shkurnikov.

M.Y. Shkurnikov is a member of the editorial board of the journal «Bulletin of Experimental Biology and Medicine», secretary of the expert council in the field of «Biology and Life Sciences» of the Council for grants of the President of the Russian Federation for state support of young Russian scientists and leading scientific schools of the Russian Federation, expert of the federal program «Research and development in priority areas of the scientific and technological complex of Russia for 2014-2020»

Objectives and tasks

The strategic goal of the Laboratory is to stimulate systematic targeted scientific research in the field of molecular physiology of human aging, to develop a microfluidic platform "human on a chip" for modeling the processes of age-related changes, to create an efficient mechanism for the development and dissemination of advanced theoretical methods, modeling methods in the professional and educational environment and applied technologies, involving HSE faculty and students in joint research activities.

Tasks of the Laboratory

  • Implementation of research activities in the field of molecular mechanisms of longevity;
  • Development of 2D and 3D models of individual organs and tissues based on human cell cultures to study the processes associated with aging;
  • Development of a method for joint long-term cocultivation of models of the intestinal barrier, brain, liver based on human cell cultures on the basis of a microfluidic system;
  • Development of approaches to artificial induction of aging of individual cellular models of a microfluidic system to study the processes of interconnection between the aging processes of individual body systems;
  • Development of ways to influence the biological processes associated with aging, based on extracellular vesicles, metabolites of the intestinal microflora.
