The Committee for Ethical Assessment of Empirical Research Projects at the Faculty of Biology and Biotechnology operates similarly to ethics committees at international research institutions (such as institutional review boards, ethical review boards, independent ethics committees, etc). It was established to address three key objectives:
- To provide faculty researchers, graduate students, and undergraduate students with the opportunity to obtain official certification confirming that their research projects comply with the ethical standards and principles of good scientific practice adopted in modern biomedical and biotechnological research.
- To conduct ethical reviews and issue official approvals for publications based on research results, meeting the requirements of most peer-reviewed scientific journals.
- To alleviate the workload of the university-wide Ethics Review Committee, thereby accelerating the process of obtaining ethical approval for researchers at the Faculty of Biology and Biotechnology.
The committee’s work is particularly critical for studies involving biological samples, cell lines, organoid models, and patient data, ensuring adherence to international standards of research ethics at all stages of scientific work—from experimental design to the publication of results.
