The committee performs functions analogous to international research ethics committees (such as institutional review boards, ethical review boards, etc). Its establishment addresses the following objectives:

• Research Expertise - Providing faculty researchers (staff, graduate and undergraduate students) with official approval certifying that their projects comply with modern ethical standards in biomedicine and biotechnology.
• Publication Support - Conducting ethical reviews and issuing approvals for publications, which is a mandatory requirement of many international scientific journals.
• Process Optimisation - Expediting the ethics approval procedure by distributing the workload away from the university-wide committee.

The committee plays a particularly important role in ensuring research compliance with international standards, especially when working with biological materials, cell cultures, and patient data, guaranteeing adherence to ethical principles at all stages of scientific work.
