A seminar on working with induced pluripotent stem cells was held at the Laboratory for Research on Molecular Mechanisms of Longevity

The Laboratory for Research on Molecular Mechanisms of Longevity at the Higher School of Economics held a seminar on current issues related to induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSC). The focus of the discussion was on approaches to obtaining iPSC from somatic cells, as well as the prospects for their application in microfluidic models of pathological conditions.

During the seminar, the participants reviewed the main sources of somatic cells used for reprogramming and separately discussed the PBMC populations most suitable for iPSC production. Special attention was paid to existing iPSC induction strategies from PBMC, including viral, non-viral, and integration-free methods, as well as their advantages and limitations.
A separate section of the seminar was devoted to quality control of iPSC obtained from PBMC. The participants discussed the minimum panel of indicators needed to assess the quality of cell lines intended for use in microfluidic models. The possibilities of creating microfluidic models of pathological conditions based on PBMC-derived iPSC, as well as key technological challenges and limitations accompanying this approach were also considered.
The seminar became a platform for the exchange of experience and discussion of practical aspects of the use of iPSC technologies in biomedical research related to disease modeling and the study of longevity mechanisms.
